1. About Part Scanner

Part Scanner (partscanner.co.uk) is a price comparison and product discovery service for car parts and accessories in the United Kingdom. We aggregate product listings, prices, and availability information from third-party retailers and display them in a single, searchable interface.

We are not a retailer. Part Scanner does not sell, stock, ship or handle any car parts. When you choose to purchase a product, you are directed to the retailer's own website where the transaction takes place entirely between you and that retailer.

2. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using Part Scanner, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

3. The service we provide

• Vehicle lookup – You can enter your UK registration number (VRM) or select your vehicle manually to find compatible parts.
• Price comparison – We display product listings from multiple retailers, including prices, brand names and part numbers, so you can compare options side by side.
• Saved vehicles & lists – You can save vehicles to your "Garage" and bookmark parts to "My List" for quick reference. This data is stored locally in your browser.
• Knowledge Hub – We provide informational guides, how-tos, and maintenance tips to help you make informed decisions about car repairs and parts.

4. Accuracy of information

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that product information, prices, vehicle compatibility data, and availability shown on Part Scanner are accurate and up to date. However:

• Product data is sourced from third-party retailers and automotive databases. We cannot guarantee it is error-free at all times.
• Prices displayed are indicative and may not reflect real-time changes made by retailers. The final price is always confirmed on the retailer's website at the point of purchase.
• Vehicle compatibility information is based on industry databases and may not cover every variant or special edition. Always verify part fitment with the retailer before purchasing.
• Content in the Knowledge Hub is provided for general informational purposes only and does not constitute professional mechanical advice. Always consult a qualified mechanic for safety-critical repairs.

5. Purchases & transactions

All purchases are made directly with third-party retailers. Part Scanner is not a party to any transaction between you and a retailer. We do not process payments, handle returns or exchanges, or provide warranties on any products.

Any issues relating to product quality, delivery, refunds, or customer service should be directed to the retailer from whom you purchased the product. Each retailer operates under its own terms and conditions.

6. Affiliate relationships & commission

Part Scanner participates in affiliate programmes with selected retailers. When you click an outbound product link, a referral identifier may be included so the retailer can attribute the visit to Part Scanner. If you subsequently make a purchase, we may earn a commission from the retailer.

The retailer may place a cookie on their own website (not on Part Scanner) to track this referral. If a purchase is made within the validity window of that cookie, we may receive a commission. Part Scanner has no control over the retailer's cookie policy – please refer to the retailer's privacy and cookie policies for details.

Affiliate commission does not increase the price you pay. Our comparison results are not ranked or ordered based on commission rates.

7. Registration lookup (VRM)

Our vehicle registration lookup service uses the registration number you provide to identify your vehicle and match it with compatible parts. Your VRM is sent to our vehicle data provider, which returns a vehicle identifier (vehicle ID / kType) so we can display parts specific to your car. We store the registration number and its associated vehicle identifier in our database to improve service performance and reduce repeated lookups. This lookup is subject to a fair usage limit (currently 3 unique VRM lookups per day per IP address) to prevent abuse. If you search for a VRM that is already stored in our database, no usage limit applies for that lookup.

8. Intellectual property

All content on Part Scanner – including text, design, layout, graphics, logos, and software – is the property of Part Scanner or its licensors and is protected by UK and international copyright and trademark law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without prior written permission.

Product images, brand names, and trademarks displayed on Part Scanner belong to their respective owners and are used for identification and comparison purposes only.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access or extract data from Part Scanner without our express written permission.
• Attempt to circumvent rate limits, security measures, or access controls.
• Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in a way that could damage, disable, or impair the service.
• Misrepresent your identity or impersonate another person or entity.
• Introduce malicious code, viruses, or any other harmful technology.

We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access to any user who violates these terms.

10. Analytics & data collection

We use third-party analytics (PostHog, hosted in the EU) to collect anonymised usage data for the purpose of improving the service. This is described in detail in our Privacy Policy. By using Part Scanner, you acknowledge this data collection.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

• Part Scanner is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
• We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation of the service.
• We are not liable for any loss, damage, or expense arising from your use of the service, reliance on information displayed, or transactions with third-party retailers.
• We are not responsible for the content, products, services, or practices of any third-party websites linked from Part Scanner.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under the law of England and Wales.

12. Availability & changes

We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of Part Scanner at any time without notice. We may also update these Terms & Conditions from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly.

13. Governing law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from the use of Part Scanner shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
